Remote Learning

What ‘remote learning’ can I expect from Powell’s C of E  Primary School?
This information is to be used as a general guide and parents can expect further details of remote learning for their child as and when it is required. We aim to implement remote learning from your child’s second day of absence (a pack will be sent out on the first day of suggested activities and apps etc.  that they can do that day). There are three general scenarios outlined below; the first scenario where your child is not permitted to attend school and the second outlines the actions in the case of a whole bubble not being permitted to attend school.

The government’s Oak Academy online lessons can be used for remote learning for every year group, covering a wide range of curriculum objectives.

At the bottom of the page please see examples of class remote timetables, some foundation subjects may change weekly.

Circumstance

Remote learning

My child (and their siblings if they are also attending Powell’s) is absent because they are awaiting test results and our household is required to self-isolate. The rest of their school bubble are attending school and being taught as normal.

If your child is too unwell to work, we would of course not expect the work to be completed.

Maths lessons (yr 1- 6) will be White Rose videos linked to work in school and work to be completed.

English tasks for KS1/KS2 uploaded to Class Dojo following the sequence of learning happening in the classroom. The quantity will be dependent on age/stage of your child. Some/all of these will be ‘handed in’ to your child’s class teacher on Class Dojo for marking.

Watch Letter and sounds phonic videos for Early years and KS1 to work on the phonics your child will be missing – teacher will direct you to the appropriate video.

Topic task(s) following the lessons being covered in class that week. This may be the screens from the lesson being uploaded onto Class Dojo along with resources / worksheets (if appropriate i.e. if the resources required for the lessons are already at home). If the lessons being taught in class are not able to be delivered remotely (e.g. if it requires additional resources such as art resources e.g. clay or pastels, or geography resources e.g maps and atlases) then alternative ‘topic’ learning will be set on Class Dojo which may make use of the Government’s ‘Oak Academy’ lessons.

My child’s whole bubble is not permitted to attend school because they, or another member of their bubble, have tested positive for Covid-19.

For each year group the teachers will produce a suggested timetable and a daily plan.

Maths lessons  The quantity and format will be dependent on age/stage of your child.  Teams will be used and there will be a mixture of live lessons (any  lessons will be recorded so can be watched at another point), pre-recorded videos and independent work.  Answers will be provided for self-marking at home. Children from year 2 up will also spend time on Times Tables Rock Stars

English tasks The quantity will be dependent on age/stage of your child.   Teams will be used and there will be a mixture of live lessons (any lessons will be recorded so can be watched at another point), pre-recorded videos and independent work.  Some/all of these will be ‘handed in’ to your child’s class teacher on Class Dojo for marking. This will include spelling, grammar, writing and reading. In addition, children are to continue to quiz on accelerated reader (if appropriate) and in Key stage one use Oxford Owl.

Phonic lessons In Early Years and Year One children will have four pre- recorded teaching videos a week by the class teacher.  In Year Two the children will use the letters and sounds lessons.

Other curriculum subjects  There will be one other subject uploaded to Teams for children to complete and hand in virtually. This will be a lesson your child would have been taught in class this term which can be most easily adapted to remote learning.  This may include resources from Oak Academy and BBC Bitesize.

1:1 support  if your child receives 1:1 support and they are isolating, a more bespoke programme of support will be set up. This may include phone calls / video chats with your child’s 1:1 support.

We enter another ‘lockdown’ with total school closure.
